The 7S26 trap
Owners accustomed to modern automatics often assume every mechanical watch should wind from the crown. On a stock 7S26, turning the crown in the normal timekeeping position does not manually wind the mainspring.
When a 7S really has a winding problem
If a 7S26 will not start or build meaningful reserve through rotor motion, or if the rotor/winding system sounds or feels abnormal, that is a different issue.
When a 4R or 6R will not hand-wind
If a movement designed for manual winding suddenly cannot be wound, feels rough, slips or behaves differently than before, stop forcing it and submit the watch.
Movement swaps can change the answer
Many Seiko mods and repaired SKX watches have been converted from 7S26 to NH/4R-family movements. Tell us if you know the watch was modified.
How the mail-in process works
Submit the watch details and photos first. If the repair appears appropriate, we provide current shipping instructions. Final scope and price follow physical inspection, and billable repair work begins only after authorization under the service terms.
