A stopped automatic is not automatically broken
If a watch has been sitting, it may simply be unwound. The correct starting procedure depends on whether the movement supports manual winding. If it starts but dies unusually quickly, that becomes useful diagnostic information.
Power reserve and winding are related but not identical
A watch can have a functioning rotor but still deliver poor reserve because of mainspring condition or excess friction. It can also run well after a manual wind while failing to replenish power efficiently on the wrist.
Regulation is not a substitute for service
Changing the rate adjustment can correct a healthy movement that is out of regulation. It cannot restore dirty lubricant, worn components or poor amplitude.
